2025
Significant Investments In Metal Spraying
Wulf Johannsen is investing in the existing business division for metal coating to enable even more efficient and faster processing of orders in the future. Going forward, both the cold spray process and the wire flame spraying process using the METCO method can be operated in parallel.
This will allow us to align our processes and workflows even more effectively, and we are pleased to offer this service to you even more frequently in the future.
2022
Completion Of New Buildings
With the inauguration of the expanded production hall and the new office building, Wulf Johannsen is significantly increasing its operational capacity. The enlarged production hall features a 16-ton overhead crane, a spacious component washing area, and three additional assembly stations for engines.
The new office building accommodates, among others, the offices of the ECOS and MOBIS operations managers as well as the executive management. Designed according to the latest standards, the building is heated via a state-of-the-art heat pump system. In addition, a photovoltaic system covering more than 1,300 square meters has been installed across nearly the entire roof surface as part of the building’s completion.

2017
Full Steam Ahead!
Wulf Johannsen has now been in business for 85 years and continues to demonstrate strong business performance. The company has acquired a portion of the neighboring property and has initiated planning to expand its existing capacities.
2015
Facing The Future
Due to continued growth, the premises occupied in 2006 and the additional space acquired in 2008 at Plant II are gradually but steadily becoming insufficient. Wulf Johannsen has initiated negotiations with the city regarding the purchase of adjacent properties to facilitate a plant expansion.
2013
Facing Headwind
Despite strong current business performance, future challenges are becoming increasingly apparent: Sales of newly constructed biogas plants are sharply declining, the shipping crisis continues unabated, and key customers are withdrawing from Northern Germany. Against this backdrop, Jan-Willem Storm has initiated strategic considerations aimed at ensuring the company's long-term sustainability, even in challenging times—one of which includes the potential expansion of the production facility.

2008
Growth In The Small Engines Business Unit
Due to strong business growth, the outsourcing of the small engine division has become necessary. The division will relocate to a neighboring building in Kiel – Plant II. From now on, all engines with a capacity of less than 100 kW will be handled there, allowing us to target the corresponding customer segments even more effectively.
2007
Celebrating 75 Years Of Excellence.
Wulf Johannsen is celebrating its 75th anniversary, marking three-quarters of a century of service tradition combined with a forward-looking expansion into new business areas. In particular, the increasingly prominent trend toward bioenergy is set to become a key pillar of the company’s future operations.

ScanDiesel GmbH
Wulf Johannsen acquires 100% of the Bremen-based diesel engine and components trading company ScanDiesel GmbH. Through this acquisition, Wulf Johannsen will be able to offer its customers new machinery and power units, as well as technologically advanced control systems. In addition, the company will gain even closer access to the latest diesel engine technologies.
2005
Jan-Willem Storm
Jan-Willem Storm takes over as Chairman of the Management Board and Assumes Role as CEO. This marks the completion of the generational transition at the shareholder level as well. In the coming years, Jan-Willem Storm will seize the opportunities in gas engine service, drive international expansion—particularly in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe—and lead Wulf Johannsen through the shipping industry crisis, which began to have a significant impact from 2009, with a continued focus on increasing professionalization.
2003
Moving Back To Kiel
Due to continued strong business growth, another relocation becomes necessary in 2003. After 63 years, Wulf Johannsen returns to the neighboring state capital, Kiel. The new company headquarters is now located at Marie-Curie-Straße 19. At this site, Wulf Johannsen invests in a state-of-the-art machinery fleet, including a high-performance overhead crane. This modern infrastructure lays the foundation for the company’s significant growth in the years to come.

A New Generation
Jan-Willem Storm joins the company, marking the beginning of the upcoming generational transition.
1988
A Change Of Ownership
56 years after its founding, Wulf Johannsen KG GmbH & Co. is being sold to Dr. Klaus Storm. As the owner of August Storm GmbH & Co., based in Spelle, Lower Saxony, Dr. Klaus Storm is also enabling Wulf Johannsen to gain access to future-oriented gas engine technology.

50 Years in Business
Wulf Johannsen has been in existence for half a century. The company continues to primarily serve clients in the maritime industry.
1972
Wulf Johannsen is once again being transitioned into a new corporate structure: Wulf Johannsen GmbH becomes a GmbH & Co. KG. This change establishes the company’s current legal form, which remains in place to this day.
1962
The End Of An Era
29 years after founding his company, Mr. Wulf Johannsen passed away. The business was initially continued by his widow and later by his daughter.
1950
Expanding The Business
In 1950, the range of services was expanded from machining engine components—specifically crankshafts and cylinders—to the maintenance and repair of complete marine diesel engines. This strategic development laid the foundation for today's comprehensive portfolio of services, which includes maintenance and repair solutions for engines and propulsion systems.
1948
Starting Again
Wulf Johannsen largely emerged unscathed from the turmoil of the Second World War. In 1948, the company is converted into a limited liability company (GmbH).
1940
A New Home
The new company headquarters is ready for occupancy in 1940. The cylinder and crankshaft grinding department can now move into the newly constructed premises. From Kronshagen, Wulf Johannsen will go on to provide services for the next 63 years.
1938
In 1938, Wulf Johannsen laid the foundation for the company’s first proprietary production site. The firm acquired a 6,000 m² industrial property on Kieler Straße in Kronshagen and commenced the construction of office and workshop buildings. Meanwhile, business operations continued uninterrupted at the rented premises in Kiel, where services continued to be delivered.
1934
Growing Fast
The strong business performance enabled the first expansion step just two years later: Wulf Johannsen’s new base became two larger leased halls on Walkerdamm in Kiel.
1932
Founding Wulf Johannsen
In 1932, Mr. Wulf Johannsen founded the company that bears his name. The first company headquarters was located on Herzog-Friedrich-Strasse in Kiel. From the very beginning, the company specialized in precision services for engines, focusing on the grinding of cylinders and crankshafts—primarily for maritime propulsion systems at the time.
